Cosplay Highlights from Lexington Comic & Toy Convention Fall 2026

I spent the September 4th weekend in Lexington, Kentucky for Lexington Comic & Toy Convention Fall 2026! I got to photograph cosplayers throughout the convention and see just how much creativity people brought with them that weekend.

Throughout the convention, I photographed everything from recognizable anime and video game characters to AU interpretations and completely personal takes on familiar characters. Some cosplayers came with incredibly detailed costumes and props, while others brought their characters to life through posing, expression, and personality.

My approach to cosplay photography is less about simply documenting a costume and more about creating a portrait that feels connected to the character. Using studio lighting, gels, intentional posing, and character-inspired editing, I wanted each finished image to feel different depending on who stepped in front of my camera. Part of the fun for me is figuring out what makes that particular character, and the person portraying them, stand out.

Lexington also gave me the opportunity to meet so many cosplayers, creators, and some incredible vendors throughout the weekend. Getting to see the work people put into their costumes up close, hear about the characters they chose, and then create something around that was easily one of my favorite parts of the convention.

I’m excited to continue photographing more of the cosplay community at conventions and creating portraits that give all of that work, creativity, and personality a place to shine. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again at Lexington Comic & Toy Convention in Spring 2027!
